REHAU at the Materials & Finishes Show 2024

RAUKANTEX: edgeband innovations make components more durable and more visually appealing

REHAU’s success in the world of interiors began over 50 years ago with furniture edgebands. And since its launch, the RAUKANTEX edgeband has played a pioneering role, as it still does today. The company is demonstrating this once again at the Materials & Finishes Show 2024. With its laser edgeband, focus on sustainability, folding edgeband version, RAUKANTEX express collections are designed to match main boards collections worldwide. Despite all the innovations, one thing has not changed for half a century: REHAU solutions make furniture more durable and more visually appealing, while making customers’ lives easier – true to the company’s motto ‘Enabling Exceptional Design’.

RAUKANTEX’s development is a history of innovation. “We specialize in polymer processing and aim to apply our knowledge and competence to develop new products that enhance the interior design industry,” says Andreas Albig, Head of the Edgebands Subdivision at REHAU. “RAUKANTEX is an example of this approach. Since the RAUKANTEX trademark was registered in 1970, we’ve continually set new standards.” One of the most important of these is the patented RAUKANTEX pro laser edgeband that forms the basis for visually and functionally seamless components with no ‘picture frame’ effect, which is still the gold standard for edgeband solutions.

Adapting RAUKANTEX to customer requirements is another important aspect for REHAU. This is one of our core competences, which we pursue with passion. This concept has given rise to a number of products, including the new developments that REHAU has brought to MAFS in Birmingham. Component quality is one focus and sustainability is another, with the third being particular edgeband functions. The protect portfolio is dedicated to many aspects of protection – such as environmental protection, fire protection, quality and health.

Edgebands for every board collection The basic idea of the edgeband was to make the cut edges of the then new chipboard invisible. New boards brought different edgeband requirements – and the variety of surfaces still determines RAUKANTEX’s collection development today. We have the matching edgeband for every surface. To achieve this, we work with all the leading board manufacturers and surface providers and implement their designs in such a way that interior designers, the furniture industry and trades can ultimately create components from a single mould.” The most recent examples of its collection development include the edgebands for the EGGER Decorative Collection 24+.
